Sul sedime vi erano due corpi edilizi distinti: una piccola villa e un edificio dove un tempo si costruivano e riparavano le barche, costruito sulla sponda del lago, a ridosso della scarpata che dalla strada scende ripida sull’acqua. La villa riprende alcuni canoni e stilemi tipici della tradizione architettonica locale di inizio secolo ma non costituisce un manufatto di particolare pregio. La fabbrica, viceversa, si presenta come un “corpus” di notevole impatto, assorbito dal tempo e dalla storia e mitigato dalla pulizia dei suoi volumi e dalla rigogliosa natura circostante. Il passar del tempo e la consuetudine l’hanno reso un “riferimento” per gli abitanti della zona e per i naviganti del lago. La fabbrica quindi, nel nuovo progetto è assunta a matrice formale – struttura simmetrica e coesa -, cromatica – il basamento bianco e la fascia superiore verde acqua – e grafica – alternanza del doppio ordine finestrato e dei segmenti a rilievo. Il progetto, dunque, nel completo rispetto del corpo di fabbrica preesistente adatta gli interni alla nuova funzione residenziale, introducendo esternamente alcuni elementi innovativi: una copertura a verde per mitigare ulteriormente l’impatto dalla strada che corre sopra l’edificio; una zoccolatura di pietra di Moltrasio con lastre di grande formato in sostituzione della fascia di intonaco bianco; il rivestimento in rame preossidato che avvolge la facciata, capace di integrarsi nella vegetazione confinante e nei riflessi dell’acqua lacustre, sostituendo totalmente l’intonaco colorato; delle “vele” di rame forate disposte in ordine sparso sul fronte, che costituiscono uno schermo semi-trasparente che con le luci notturne assume le caratteristiche di una filigrana e di giorno contribuisce ad alleggerire le facciate. Mimesis intesa non come imitazione dell’esistente, ma interpretazione e integrazione con il paesaggio, evitando di costruire l’ennesimo edificio di post-modern pseudo-palladiano. Un atteggiamento rispettoso del contesto, consapevole e attento. Non altrettanto apprezzato da commissioni pubbliche e/o sovraintendenze, che al contrario molto spesso accettano di buon grado il falso pseudo-palladiano di cui sopra.
On the building lot there were two distinct construction bodies: a small country house and a building, where ships were once built and repaired, located on the shore near a slope descending steeply from the street towards the water. The country house shows some criteria and stylistic features typical of the local architectural tradition of the beginning of the 20th century, but not of particularly good quality. Whereas the factory is a body of great impact, absorbed by time and by history, and mitigated by the cleanness of its volumes and the luxuriant surrounding nature. Passing of time and habit have made this place a ‘point of reference’ for locals and sailors. In the new project therefore, the factory is the matrix of form – with a symmetric and cohesive structure -, colour – white basement and water-green band above -, and graphics – alternating double row of windows and relief segments. Maintaining the body of the pre-existing factory as a whole, the project adapts the interiors to its new residential function, adding some innovative elements on the outside: a green covering further mitigating the impact of the street passing above the building; a plinth of Moltrasio stone with large-format slabs instead of the white plaster band; pre-oxidised copper coating wrapping the façade, perfectly matching the adjoining vegetation and the reflections of the water, completely substituting the coloured plaster; pierced copper ‘sails’ situated randomly on the front side create a semi-transparent screen which takes on the appearance of a watermark at night and lightens the façades by day. Mimesis meant not as an imitation of the pre-existing but as an interpretation and integration with the landscape, avoiding the creation of yet another post-modern pseudo-Palladian building. A respectful attitude towards the setting, conscious and careful. Not as well-appreciated by public committees and/or Government bodies, which on the contrary very often prefer the aforementioned false pseudo-Palladian.
