A large equipped park for a run-down area devoid of facilities and green areas. Of great importance are the access routes, the pedestrian and cycle paths, and connections to the surrounding area, as well as the functional character of the park borders. The southern part hosts neighbourhood services and facilities for the elderly (reusing the existing buildings of the military fort and hangar). On the northern part there is the long ‘corridor’, a border towards the urban fabric, along which spaces for exhibitions, refreshments, the library, the multimedia room, toilets, auditorium and administrative offices are located. Sport facilities and a riding school offering riding therapy are situated on the east. The border with the existing military settlement is lined by a double row of Lombardy poplars (Populus Nigra Italica). The park design stems from the integration of the orthogonal mesh of the antique centuriatio with its woods to the west, thick-grown with local species and delimited by shrub and arborescent hedges. All over the area, the nodes of the orthogonal mesh of the centurial are highlighted by wild cherry (Prunus Avium). The centre of the park hosts the great Square, a large, empty space surrounded by an arcade (architectural rendering of the pre-existing Campo Marzio), where a water park with twenty-five basins and paths crossing on the water surface is planned. In each basin there is a letter, composing the antique cryptic Sator palindrome. The water park is added to the experimental (cylinder-shaped) glasshouses and the wide-spread botanical gardens in the woods. In the woods there is a lake with an environmental oasis and an adjoining animal observatory. In the middle of the woods there are two large green squares, used as open-air rooms: the Solarium and the Meridiana rooms. The archaeological areas of the antique Roman villas will be interlinked with the park services, with safety paths crossing the construction sites. Furthermore, theme gardens surrounding the villas will be created: the ‘historical gardens’, the ‘flight garden’, the ‘colour garden’, the ‘garden of the senses’, ‘the garden of the simple’ and the ‘garden of the four seasons’.
